M Boba didn't begin with a dream of owning a café. It began with a mother who wanted to create an opportunity for her daughter. Like many parents, we wanted to help our daughter find her own path in life, in a place where she could feel comfortable, supported, and free to grow at her own pace. One thing she always loved was boba. She and her mom spent countless afternoons exploring tea shops around Tulsa until they discovered a little place in South Tulsa that quickly became their favorite.
Inspired by those visits, Tara began researching what it would take to open a boba shop of our own. She had never owned a business and had little experience in food service, but she saw the possibility of building something meaningful for our daughter's future. Then, almost by chance, she learned that the owner of their favorite shop was looking to sell. In October 2025, we took a leap of faith and became the owners of M Boba.
Owning a small business has been more challenging than we imagined, but along the way, something wonderful happened. Our daughter embraced the shop, learning new skills, taking on responsibilities, building friendships, and growing in confidence and independence. We saw firsthand how much it matters to have a place where someone feels accepted, encouraged, and valued for who they are. What began as an opportunity we hoped to create for her became an opportunity she made her own.
